Monsters, Fabric Layout and Crochet...

The school holidays are finally here and the kids are lovin' it! We've spent the weekend at Nanna & Grandpa's (my parents') place where the kids got to play with their cousins and got totally spoiled. We're home again tonight... exhausted! I have to say it's going to be soooo nice not having to get up and do the school run tomorrow morning! :)

I've got a few crafty things to share tonight. First off I'll start with these little cuties...
Meet Belly, Racer and Jed! (I know... funny names but the kids picked them out!) LOL... This is just one of the great projects in the new mag Australian Homesewn (this particular project is by the super crafty Melissa Goodsell) As soon as the kids saw 'Zet the Monster' on the cover of the mag they all wanted one... so they picked out their fabric and eye colour and I got to work. They love them and they were really easy to make! If you haven't seen the mag you should check it out. There's some fantastic ideas in there... great gift ideas too!

I also signed up for the 'Much Ado About Fabric' class over at Workshops @ Home (http://www.kimarcher.com.au/). There's so many great ideas for using fabric on your layouts and cards in this class.... great for using up scraps left over from other sewing projects. Here's one layout I completed... an all fabric layout!

It was heaps of fun scrapping with fabric instead of paper for a change! There's still heaps of other techniques I'm going to try too....

The other thing I started this week was a crochet blanket. Now I never thought I'd ever learn how to crochet! Both my Nanna's created beautiful blankets and things with crochet but they both passed away long ago so I never had the chance to learn from them. The other day I was looking at all my spare wool sitting in the cupboard and had the sudden urge to find out how to do it. So I headed to You Tube and found this tutorial and before I knew it I was off and running! I'm sure both my Nanna's would be tickled pink to know that I'm having a go at the craft they loved so much... Here's what I've done so far...It's just the traditional granny square pattern but I'm continuing it on rather than making a heap of squares to sew together. These are the colours I'll be using...

So far it's only big enough to use as a doll's blanket but I'll just continue on until it's big enough to use as a throw blanket. I like having something to do while I'm sitting on the couch watching tv.. feels like I'm achieving something. LOL... Plus I think it'd be so lovely to see my blanket sitting there on the shelf with my Nannas' blankets.... And you know what? I just taught my Mum how to crochet on the weekend too! She's a beautiful knitter but never learned how to crochet before. So now she's started her own blanket!! I love that I've been able to show her something for a change.... :)

Ok... I've rambled on long enough for one post!! LOL ... Until next time, take care!!

Sassafras Cuttlebug Cards...

Hi Everyone! Not a lot to tell from this past week. Paul was away for most of it visiting his Mum in Sydney (she's really sick) and then in Rockhampton for work. I'm so happy to have him home again...and so are the kids!

So instead of rambling on about nothing in particular, I think I'll just share with you the cards from my monthly Cuttlebug Card Class I ran on Sunday at Sunbird Scrapbooking. I love these Sassafras Bungle Jungle papers... such fun, bright colours! I've thrown in a close-up pic of each so you can see a bit more detail...

Oh yeah... I did also make another one of Janelle's 'Love Your Heart' bags for another special little birthday girl... (I'm hoping she likes it!)

That's about it! Hope you're all having a great week... and staying warm wherever you are!

More sewing... and I finished Riley's Blanket!

After making the "Little Frilly" bag last week for Liv's birthday I was keen to have a go at the other little bag that was included in Janelle's "For the Girls" pattern. This one is called "Love Your Heart"... it's so cute! Madison just adores it... she calls it her 'pwetty bag'...LOL... I finally bought myself a 1/4 inch foot for my sewing machine too which really helped!
As soon as I'd finished sewing up the lining she took off with it to fill it up with toys and things... she's such a girlie girl!

I've also been working on Riley's blanket...you know the one I started LAST winter!? LOL... Well my poor little man has been asking me and asking me for weeks how it's going and when will it be finished... so I really focused on it this week... and I'm so happy (and relieved) to say that IT'S ALL DONE!!!! I stayed up until about 1am this morning to finish hand sewing it all together... and it was so worth it to see Riley's reaction when he awoke to find it laying on top of his bed....

My scrapping has been a bit neglected lately with my other little projects taking up most of my spare time... but I did finish off that one I mentioned in my last post using some of the Basic Grey Lime Rickey papers...

That's about all I have to show you for now. But before I go I thought I'd share these pics of Madi that I took yesterday. We found a ladybug in the garden and it's the first one she's ever seen. She LOVED it! Kept saying how 'pwetty' it was and how it 'liked' her. She sat for AGES letting it crawl all over her little fingers and up her arms before she put it back in the garden so it could 'go home to her babies'.

I'm off to bed... very tired after last night's effort... and it's almost midnight again! Have a great week!

Little Frilly Bag, Beanbags & A Retreat...

I've been giving my sewing machine a bit of a workout this past week! To start off with I made this cute little bag from Janelle's gorgeous "For The Girls" pattern. It's a great gift idea for any little girl who loves bags! It was also pretty easy to make too. This has already gone to a little cutie who had birthday earlier in the week. Now I need to make one for Madi! (To find out where you can purchase Janelle's patterns just check out the list of stockists on her blog.)

Then Mel gave me a really easy beanbag pattern so I got busy making 3 for our lounge room. They're the perfect size for the kids...and now they love sitting or laying on them while playing the Playstation or watching tv! Here's Madison (with very scruffy hair!) on hers...

I just did plain chocolate brown ones for the boys to match in with our colour scheme. (A little boring to photograph.)

Sorry I don't have any scrapping to share at the moment.. although I'm halfway through a layout! I'll share that one in my next post...

So who else is going to the very first @HomeAway Weekend Retreat in November? I AM AND I CAN'T WAIT!!!!! It's going to be so much fun and I'm looking forward to finally meeting some beautiful online friends in person after all this time....VERY exciting!!!!! Are you going?
