Another week's gone by...

This week really has whizzed by in a blur! We haven't had anything exciting happening but it seems to have gone by so fast...

Ayden experienced his first Anzac Day ceremony at school last week, although he doesn't really understand the whole concept just yet. His explanation of the day is that "the men saved all the people and they saved the world!" It was wonderful for him to be part of it all, and his class made a lovely wreath for the occasion.

Other than that there's not a lot of news from us! I did run a Scrap-a-Sketch class at The Scrapyard today so at least I can share a couple of layouts with you...

I've had these photos of Riley playing with his Thomas track sitting around for well over a year so I was so happy to finally get them scrapped... and he's still as obsessed with Thomas now as he was when the pics were taken! I even dragged out my old foam stamps and paint which I haven't used in a LONG time.

I'm a little sad that my fave show (So You Think You Can Dance) is all over for the year but I'm SOOO happy that Jack won!! YIPPEE!! I loved him from the start and he totally deserved to win... although they were all fantastic dancers weren't they? What am I going to watch now?

So that's it from me today...thanks for dropping by!

This week...

First of all, here are two layouts from my class today at The Scrapyard...

The photos in the 'Squashed Faces' layout make me giggle... the boys are always pushing their faces up against the mesh on their trampoline! Little rascals! They think it's hilarious.

Now for a quick update on what's been happening here since my last post... Paul came home on Tuesday after being away for a week up at Horn Island (off the northern tip of Qld) with work. He was there in support of the Australian Defence Force - on call 24 hours a day!
They used the Energex helicopter on this job - it's different to the ones he flies at Careflight, but he used to fly these machines while we lived in Sydney and on Hamilton Island so he quite enjoyed getting back into flying it again.
One of the things Paul's always wanted to do is see the northern tip of Australia - so now he's done it! (Another thing crossed of his list!) Here are a couple of photos he brought back of the area...

He got to work with a great bunch of guys there - he even met up with a few people he knew! It's a small world that's for sure. I have to say though I'm sooo glad to have him home again. That week seemed to drag on for me here with the 3 kids! The boys were counting down the days and both of them and Madi were so excited to see him get off the train.

Otherwise there hasn't really been a lot else happening! Thankfully Riley hasn't had any more sleepless nights so I've been able to get just a little more sleep too! I managed to get some scrapping in last night but can't share just yet. Hoping to get busy on another page tonight if I can.

So that's about it from me today! Have a great evening!

Lacking sleep...

Mum and Dad came to stay overnight last night. Usually they just come the for day so it was nice to have them here a little longer than normal... and the kids loved it! I had a shocking night's sleep though... all 3 were awake through the night! First Madi with her usual night wakening and demand for a bottle, then Ayden came in, then I had Riley sitting at the end of my bed... so weird... it was like he was sleep walking or something! He said "Mum it's on you! Look!" I asked what was on me and he was pointing at me saying "The robot's on you!" He sounded quite upset about it so I can only imagine he was dreaming. I took him back to bed but over the following hour or so he kept coming back in just standing in the doorway staring around the room... kind of freaky really in the middle of the night! In the end he fell asleep in our bed. I have no idea what was disturbing him so much. (When he woke up this morning he looked down at my bed and said "Oh look Mum - there's no snakes or crocodiles in the bed!" What on earth was he dreaming last night?!) Ayden also woke up having a bad dream - he said he saw Madi's stuffed toy rabbit walking across the room - what the? Madi tossed and turned all night too, sobbing in her sleep a few times... what was going on?!!! I reallllllly hope we have a better night tonight. I'm already severely lacking in sleep!

I received some happy mail this week. I ordered one of Janelle's Frilly Dilly Bag kits from Ballarat Patchwork. The fabrics really are so gorgeous!
I've loved this bag since I saw it on Janelle's blog ages ago so I can't wait to sit down and make one for myself! Just need to find some time now in amongst all the other things I have on the go at the moment...

I've been working on knitting that blanket for Riley that I mentioned a few posts back. Here's a quick pic of what it's looking like.
I've only done 3 panels so far and sewn them together. I've got another 6 to go, but I'm getting there slowly but surely. (Mum's already on her 7th panel on the one she's doing for Ayden - as I predicted she'll be finished long before I am!)
I have managed to squeeze some scrapping in over the last few days too - can't share just yet though.... Hopefully I'll get another layout started tonight when the kids finally go to bed. Have to watch "So You Think You Can Dance" though too - can't miss that!
Have a great night everyone!

Another Layout...

I was supposed to be running a Scrap-a-Sketch class today at the Scrapyard, but unfortunately Paul was called away for work so I just wasn't able to do it. Luckily Sandra kindly stepped in and ran it for me. (Thanks again Sandra!) So sorry ladies but I'll be there next time for sure! Anyway... here's one of my examples from today's class. The pics are of Madi's first time on the trampoline. She loved it and still does!
(I just realised that I haven't scanned my other example layout and it's now at the shop so I'll have to share that one later...)
I had the pleasure of meeting two fantastic ladies at work this week! Lee Woodside - kind of weird when you recognise someone just from reading their blog... but it was so lovely to meet her! Then imagine my surprise when I get a phone call later that day from the gorgeous Maria (from Scrapboxx) to say she was popping in with Roz to say hi!! I didn't know she was on the Gold Coast so it was totally unexpected... and awesome to meet her in person! Such a great day...
The last couple of days I've been pretty tied up with the kids and getting back into school mode, but I'm hoping to get a little scrapping done tonight if I can. I have to say Ayden was so excited to go back to school and he's loving it! It's so nice to see...
That's it from me tonight! Hope everyone's having a great week!

Some layouts and holiday happenings...

I haven't scrapped much since I started my knitting project, so last night I grabbed some photos and papers and got busy! I chose some old photos that have been sitting around my scrap room for ages - they are of Ayden's 3rd birthday from a couple of years ago - and I used up some papers that I've had for a while too. They're pretty simple layouts, but I'm so glad I've finally got these pages done!

Here's one I did a while ago for The Scrapyard... I love this pic of Madi! It would have to be one of my favourites for sure!

Well school holidays are almost over, and not soon enough according to Ayden! He can't wait to go back! Not that he doesn't want to be home, he just misses his friends and Ms Taylor. We haven't had much opportunity to really go anywhere special these holidays, but we did have some old friends visit during the week which was wonderful! (Hi Bill & Inga if you're reading this!) They're the type of friends that, even though you don't see each other for months on end or talk on the phone much, when you get together it's like you only saw them yesterday. The kids loved having Jarrett and Stella here to play with and it's so nice to see them all get along so well when they haven't seen each other for about a year! Silly me forgot to snap any photos while they were here... I was just too caught up with chatting and catching up!

We took the boys to the movies yesterday to see "Horton Hears A Who"... well Paul took them in while I shopped with Madi...
(It's hopeless trying to take Madi to the cinema. I spend most of the time chasing her up and down the isles so it's easier if Paul takes the boys in by himself.) They all loved the movie, including Paul! I'll have to see it when it comes out on DVD...
We might head over to Mum & Dad's place for the day tomorrow... that should finish off the holidays nicely! Next school holidays we're going to try and do a big trip down south to visit Paul's family. We just don't get to see them all enough! We're already planning and gathering up all the winter clothes that we can find... it's chilly down there!!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Seven Years Ago...

Seven years ago I married the most wonderful man I could ever have hoped for! It was our wedding anniversary yesterday and although we've now been married for 7 years, today marks 18 YEARS since we first became a couple! Eighteen years sounds so unbelievable! We met in Year 12 and have been together ever since and right from the start it just felt right. I knew that someday we would get married and have a family... and look where we are now! It's been such an awesome journey so far and we've done so many wonderful things together.... I can't wait to see what's to come!

I thought I'd share a wedding photo to mark the occasion. This is one of our photos that I actually like! When I look back at our wedding photos now I realise just how bad our photographer was... We need to go through and scan all the negatives and do our own cropping and altering when we get some time to spare. (At least he gave us the negatives!)

I won't bore you too much with photos, but here's my favourite pic from our honeymoon.

We went to the USA and toured around and saw soooo much and had an absolute blast! This photo was taken at Yosemite National Park and we were so lucky to be there just after it had snowed... well it actually snowed while we were there as well... and it looked so beautiful! It really was some of the most spectacular scenery we have ever seen! (You'll have to excuse my really unflattering jacket - it was a $10 buy while we were in Fresno as we weren't expecting snow on our holiday!) Ok... so enough of that... I could go on forever about it!! LOL! We've got about a million photos from the trip and not one of them has been scrapped... I really should do something about that...

To celebrate we went out to dinner last night... with the kids! We don't have a babysitter nearby so we took them along and they were so well behaved! The place we went to was so kid-friendly which really helped. They had a clown there who wanders around entertaining the kids with funny jokes and balloon animals and things... he also had a real little bunny for the kids to pat -it was so adorable! I wished we'd taken the camera with us..silly huh!

So anyway, that's it from me today! I'm off to dig my winter pj's out of the drawer... it's so chilly today!!! Hope everyone's having a lovely week!

Out come the knitting needles and crochet hook...

I've been really inspired lately by all the knitting and crochet talk around the place. Mardi's been crocheting hats like crazy, Melissa's knitting scarves and blankets.... it's given me the urge to drag out some knitting needles myself! After all... winter is just around the corner!

So I thought it might be a nice idea to knit both the boys their own special blanket for those cold winter mornings in front of the tv watching cartoons curled up on the couch. Madi's already got one. Her Great Nanna crocheted her a blanket last winter which I absolutely love... here's a pic...

So off I went yesterday to Spotlight and picked up some wool so I could get started. I chose three shades blue for Ayden (it's his fave colour) and for Riley I decided on navy, green & white. When I told Mum about my plans she offered to knit one of them, so now Mum is working on Ayden's blanket while I'm doing Riley's. I decided to keep it very simple so it wouldn't take too long to get it done. I started last night with the navy and went out today to pick up the green wool at Big W (Spotlight just didn't have any nice greens yesterday when I went) so here's what I've done so far...
Mum will be finished long before me no doubt! She's so fast at knitting... she can literally do it without looking!!! I don't know how she does that without dropping stitches..... Since I can only scrap at night while the kids are in bed it's great to have something creative to do during the day while they're playing around the house.

I've been wanting to learn to crochet for a long time now too. Both my Nanna's were beautiful crocheters and I wish I had asked them to teach me while they were still around. (They both passed away years ago now.) Mardi had sent me a link to a tutorial on You Tube a couple of days ago, so last night I thought I'd check it out. I ended up finding some great basic step-by-step tutorials on You Tube and with their help, I can now crochet!!! Check out what I made!

I can't believe I can crochet a flower!! It's amazing what you can learn over the internet!!

Ayden had crazy hair day at school today for the last day of term. I got up this morning realising that we don't have any mousse or hair gel, but hairspray seemed to do the trick! He really wanted a mohawk type style...this is what we came up with...

He was quite happy with his 'do' and it was lots of fun seeing everyone turning up for school with their crazy hair! Even Ms Taylor, Ayden's teacher, got in on the act with big loops all through her hair! Wish I had a pic of that to share...

Other than that there's not really much else to tell about this week. I have done a little scrapping but nothing I can share just yet. Well, it's bedtime for the kids so I'm off to tuck them in, grab a cuppa and decide whether to scrap or knit tonight! Hope everyone has a great weekend!
